Rozate Kennels has been involved in Aussies since 1994 and have been breeding since 2000. We have consistently imported from the US to improve genetics and performance.

While we have a fantastic reputation for producing dogs who are trainable and easy to title  in a variety of sports, we also have generations of dogs bringing love and smiles to families all over Australia. Some have owned our Aussies since our first litter and continue to keep one of our Aussies as part of their family.

Our Havanese joined the family in 2016 with Oshie from Ngalla Kennels. Oshie arrived as a pet for Lizzie, became best mate to Thor (Aussie) and after his death in 2020 switched to the role of full time school dog at a big Primary School. Luna joined the family in 2022 and our first litter of Havanese arrived in 2023. Koko joined the family early 2024 as the school dog in training.

Rozate Kennels Philosophy

Why do you breed?

We breed to improve our lines and have young animals to show and trial. As litters routinely have between 6 and 8 pups there will be puppies available for sale from time to time.
We seek to produce a dog fit for function.
This means our Australian Shepherds can do ranch chores, be a truck buddy, hiking companion and best friend.
Our Miniature American Shepherds can enjoy urban life, have fun participating in family activities and with support do ranch chores.
Our Havanese will be your best friend, make you laugh daily, will sit on your lap, share your bed and enjoy outings with you.
Dog breeds have been developed for specific purposes and it is important to ensure that your lifestyle, work hours and home are going to suit the type of dog you hope to get.

We just want a pet puppy not a performance or show dog. Do you sell pets?
Most of our pups are sold to loving pet homes. We believe these homes offer outsanding lives for our dogs and they appreciate it. We enjoy keeping in touch with your dog as he grows and love seeing photos.

Do you sell Aussies as performance dogs?
We are thrilled to sell suitable pups to obedience, agility and herding homes as our dogs enjoy being in a partnership with their owner. Our aim is to breed a versatile Australian Shepherd - one that looks like an Aussie, is friendly and trainable and can do any dog sport their owner desires.

We also breeding a working line of Australian Shepherds based on the line developed by Bob Vest and introduced to us by Trudy Viklund of Double V Stockdogs. These dogs are exceptional herding dogs. They also make amazing agility, obedience, hiking, running and active pets. While they have a high drive and strong instinct they are also incredibly biddable and are excellent pets when given clear expectations (and a ball!).

Do you sell Aussies & MAS as show/breeding dogs?
We do sell to serious show and breeding homes but like to work in a mentoring partnership to help people new to the breed find out the ins and outs of this fabulous breed. If you are not interested in a mentoring friendship then please find another breeder.

What do your puppies come with and how do you pick?
All puppies are vaccinated, microchipped, opthalmologist tested and registered. They are assessed against the breed standard at 8 weeks and are matched to their new homes at this stage. Occasionally we will have pups available prior to this if they have markings or colouration that is not acceptable under the standard. All puppies come with an information booklet, collar and lead and toy.

What do you offer as support after purchase?
We love people to feel part of the Rozate family. We have a closed Facebook page for 'Rozate Owners' where people who own our dogs can share photos, stories, ask for advice or guidance. Many of the people on our group have decades of dog experience and are very willing to help and share. Each Saturday herding lessons are conducted at Rozate and in the afternoons the Rozate family are welcome to come and visit, catch up and try their paw at herding if they wish. This is at no cost and is available for the life of the dog.

Do you have a waiting list?
We encourage people to contact us and discuss their interest in the breed and needs in a new dog. We usually have a lot of interest in our pups so it is worth getting in touch if you are interested in an Aussie, MAS or Havanese from our lines. We have a 'pre-approved' owners list - and then ask prospective owners to keep in touch when pups are due so that we can discuss what is born. In order to become a pre-approved owner we ask you email us with the information requested above about self, family, home, work and dog experience. Then come and visit our dogs. If you live interstate or overseas we go through a different process to ensure a Rozate pup will be a good match.
